Poland’s Border Guard has announced that it detained 71 migrants, including several Afghan nationals, during a three-day operation along the country’s borders with Lithuania and Belarus.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on Monday, July 13, the Border Guard said the migrants were identified and detained at the borders with Lithuania and Belarus. After completing the required legal procedures, they were handed over to the Lithuanian authorities.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, a Ukrainian citizen was also arrested after allegedly traveling to the border area to transport five migrants. He was apprehended while attempting to carry out the operation.<\/p>\n
The statement added that the detained migrants were transferred to the Lithuanian authorities under bilateral cooperation mechanisms following the completion of legal procedures.<\/p>\n
Since the Taliban returned to power, many Afghan citizens have attempted to reach European Union member states through Belarus and Lithuania due to security concerns, social restrictions, and economic hardship.<\/p>\n
