The United States has deported dozens of migrants, including 12 Afghan nationals, to the Central African Republic.<\/p>\n
The Associated Press reported that the migrants arrived in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, on Saturday (August 29).<\/p>\n
Sawy Aru, from the organization \u201cFirst Human Rights,\u201d said that the deportation flight included 12 Afghan migrants, eight Iranians, and several others from Nepal and Nicaragua.<\/p>\n
According to the report, a 20-year-old man whose brothers had worked with the U.S. military under Afghanistan\u2019s former government was also deported to the Central African Republic.<\/p>\n
Alma David, the young man\u2019s lawyer, said that a U.S. judge had blocked his deportation to Afghanistan due to fears that he could face persecution by the Taliban.<\/p>\n
According to court documents reviewed by the Associated Press, the young man\u2019s family in Afghanistan had been threatened by the Taliban because of the support his brothers had provided to the U.S. military.<\/p>\n
Alma David said that one of the young man\u2019s brothers lives in the United States and previously served in the Afghan National Army.<\/p>\n
She added that another of his brothers was a pilot trained by the United States and was killed by the Taliban.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, organizations supporting the rights of refugees and asylum seekers\u2014particularly those involved in evacuating former Afghan partners of the U.S. military and American institutions\u2014are still trying to persuade Washington to protect people who risked their lives because of the U.S. mission in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2021.<\/p>\n
