One Million Afghan Citizens Work in the Carpet-Weaving Industry
The Economic Deputy Office of the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s Office says that around one million Afghan citizens are employed in the carpet-weaving industry.
In a post published on X on Saturday, July 18, the office stated that exports of Afghan carpets have increased significantly in recent years, and international demand for the country’s handmade products has grown.
The Economic Deputy Office said the rise in carpet exports reflects the industry’s growing position in global markets.
Carpet weaving is one of Afghanistan’s most important traditional industries and is especially widespread in parts of the northern, western, and central provinces. Afghan handwoven carpets are internationally recognized for their traditional designs, quality, and artistic value, making them one of the country’s best-known export products.
