USA to hand over Bagram military base to Afghanistan forces in 20 days
Bagram, the largest US military base in the country, will be handed over to Afghan security forces in 20 days. Afghan and US security sources said the operation to hand over the base to Afghans was ongoing.
An Afghan security official said the handover was expected in about 20 days and the defense ministry had set up special committees to manage it.
A U.S. military official also confirmed the readiness to hand over the main foreign military base to Afghan forces, but did not say when.
Bagram is the largest US and NATO military base in Afghanistan. It is located next to the ancient city of Bagram, 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) southeast of Charikar in the Parwan Province of Afghanistan, sometimes holds up to 30,000 foreign troops.
