NATO leaders: We stand with Afghan security forces.

The summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was held in Brussels.
A joint statement issued by the meeting also addressed the issue of Afghanistan.

The statement said that NATO’s military mission in Afghanistan is over, but its civilian mission in Afghanistan will be maintained.
NATO leaders have stressed that they stand by Afghanistan, its people, institutions and security forces, and support the achievements of the past 20 years.

“NATO’s military mission in Afghanistan is coming to an end after 20 years, but Afghans are now taking full responsibility for their own security,” the statement said.

The alliance also addressed Afghanistan in its Brussels Summit Communiqué, writing that the group will “open a new chapter” in its relationship with Afghanistan.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, in remarks following a meeting of the alliance in Brussels, said the coalition’s leaders “reaffirmed their commitment to continue to stand with Afghanistan with training and financial support for Afghan forces and institutions.”
