UN: Half of Afghanistan’s Population Expected to Live in Cities by 2060
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) says that by 2060, one in every two people in Afghanistan is expected to be living in urban areas.
In a post on X on Thursday, July 2, UN-Habitat said that many Afghan cities are not yet prepared for such rapid urbanization.
The UN agency stressed that by prioritizing safe and adequate living environments, it is possible to build cities where everyone can enjoy a decent quality of life.
However, cities across Afghanistan continue to face major infrastructure shortages, including inadequate water supply, sanitation systems, electricity, transportation, and housing infrastructure.
