US and Turkish foreign ministers discussed peace in Afghanistan.
The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, discussing Afghanistan in their phone call.
“Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu discussed the importance of cooperation between the United States and Turkey, including our shared interests in Syria and Afghanistan” State Department spokesman Edward Price said.
State Department spokesman did not elaborate.
It comes as Turkey is set to host a U.S.-backed conference on Afghanistan’s peace process.
The conference was set for April 24 but postponed to after Ramadan—Muslims holy month and the Eid-ul Fitr that follows.
It was postponed as reports said the Taliban refused to participate in the summit.
Beside, Foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Turkey and Pakistan decided at a meeting on April 23 to try to hold the meeting.
Still it is unknown when Istanbul meeting will take place.
