Trump: We May Withdraw the Remaining US Military Equipment in Afghanistan
US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States may retrieve the military equipment left behind in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of American forces in 2021.
Trump made these remarks on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, on the sidelines of the G7 summit in response to journalists’ questions.Criticizing the manner of the withdrawal under the Joe Biden administration, he said Washington could have taken all its military equipment out of Afghanistan, but the previous US government left it behind.Trump added: “We may take all that equipment back. Now, this issue is more symbolic because the equipment has become old, but perhaps we will bring all of it back.”
The US President also stated that if he had been in charge of the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, the process would have been carried out “with honor and pride” and with the complete transfer of military equipment.
According to estimates by the US Department of Defense, after the withdrawal of American forces in August 2021, military equipment worth more than seven billion dollars remained in Afghanistan, most of which fell into the hands of the Taliban after the collapse of the previous government. The Biden administration had previously said that the equipment belonged to the former Afghan security forces and came under Taliban control after the government’s collapse.
